What is allergy:

The immune system of each and every human individual is unique. Allergic reactions or simply Allergy occurs when there is a disorder of this immune system. This is caused by certain substances in the environment around us known as "Allergens". Though this particular substances are inherently harmless in nature, it is the reaction of our immune system to the presence of allergens that causes Allergy. Hypersensitivity has four different forms out of which Allergy is one and it is also referred to as Type- 1 Hypersensitivity.

What Happens During An Allergic Reaction?:

When this Allergens come in to contact with human body, the immune system generates or activates excess amounts of White Blood Cells, also known as Mast cells along with Basophils Characterized by certain anti- body called IgE in excessive amounts cause the occurrence of Allergic reactions. SYMPTOMS:

• Most commonly observed symptoms in different organs are:
• Basic Symptoms:
  • -High Fever, Severe cold, cough, running nose, sneezing, sinuses.

• Eyes: Reddening of the eyes, itching and conjunctivitis.
• Nose and Breathing: Swelling of nasal mucosa, asthma, difficulty in breathing.
• Ear: Hearing impairment including pain in certain cases.
• Indigestion: Vomiting, Diarrhoea, constipation, Stomach Ache.

Out of above symptoms, Hay fever, Running Nose, and itchiness are known to be observed amongst most patients. Though allergies are not commonly known to be fatal, in some cases severe allergic reactions due to environmental factors or reaction to medication may lead to death.

There are basically two major factors for the occurrence of Allergic reactions in any individual.
